Business Spotlight: Aiona Car Sales

What started out with an idea to open a franchise rental car company quickly turned into one of the Big Island's most renowned family businesses: Aiona Car Sales.

Pat Aiona Sr. had flown all the way to Las Vegas for a meeting. He was hoping to open up a national car rental agency; however, Pat Sr. was unpleasantly surprised to learn during signing that the original terms would not be honored. Instead of giving up on a dream, Pat Sr. and his sons, Pat Jr. and Andres decided a new course of action: to develop a car lot right here at home on the Big Island. From that point on, the Aiona family would save every dime, and go so far as to max out their credit cards and take out business loans to see this venture through.

Before they knew it, in December of 1998, they would be opening the doors to Aiona Car Sales with a goal to specialize in pre owned vehicles, leasing, rentals, and auto repair. It was the Aiona family's vision to offer the Big Island a one stop shop for anything automotive. Located at 123 Wiwoole St in Hilo, the Aionas would make a name for themselves by offering top-notch service and inventory.

“Where Service and Integrity is a Family Tradition”

Since then, Aiona Car Sales has become a household name on the Big Island, and a cornerstone of the community. Since 1999, the business has been voted Best Used Car Dealer on the Big Island and East Hawaii nearly every year since voting began. The Aiona Family is also proud to be the only automotive dealership on the Big Island that is wholly owned by Native Hawaiians. They attribute their massive successes to their motto, “where service and integrity is a family tradition”, as well as their mission statement, ‘to provide quality vehicles at a fair price”.

Aiona Car Sales continues to innovate and offer incredible services for the Big Island, and the showroom is always fully staffed with friendly and helpful associates. This, combined with their exceptional integrity has made Aiona Car Sales a mainstay of Hilo, and a model of Big Island business worthy of the spotlight.
